Governor Schwarzenegger Takes Action to Bolster State's Firefighting Resources
Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger today issued
Executive Order S-03-08,
which boosts the state's
preparedness for wildfire
season and directs the
California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection
(CAL FIRE) to immediately
mobilize critical
firefighting resources and
personnel to save lives and
homes statewide.
"This year's fire season has
already begun," Governor
Schwarzenegger said. "We
need every firefighting
resource and tool on ready
alert, so we can spring to
action when disaster
strikes. This Executive
Order gives CAL FIRE the
ability to increase staffing
and pre-deploy equipment in
anticipation of extreme and
threatening fire weather."
The Governor also directed
state agencies, including
the Governor's Office of
Emergency Services,
California National Guard,
California Conservation
Corps and the California
Department of Corrections
and Rehabilitation to
coordinate their actions

Wildfire Awareness Week
Each year CAL FIRE urges residents of the importance of preparing for wildfires during Wildfire Awareness Week. CAL FIRE will use May 4-10, 2008 to promote the theme, "Why 100 feet?... Because defensible space is YOUR responsibility." With 100 feet of defensible space, homeowner's living in wildfire hazard areas can greatly increase their homes chance of surviving a wildfire. To learn more on how you can prepare your home for a wildfire, check out our defensible space section and our new wildland hazard and building codes section.
